Point your camera at the code

No scanner app needed: your phone's camera recognizes the QR code on its own. A notification appears, you tap it, and you land on the app's store page.

The iOS version is in development. Scan the code to be told the moment it lands on the App Store — that's the only thing we'll write to you about.

One code for both

This one sends each person to the right store, based on their phone. It's the code to put on a poster, a business card or a screen: it will still work when the iPhone version ships.

First run

Three minutes, and you're set

Create your account

An email, a phone number, a password. You get a code by text that opens your session right away; confirming the email can wait a few days.

Fill in your profile

Age, gender, a few attributes, a description. At least one photo is required, and one of them must be taken inside the app: that's what assures other people that the person in the photo is the one holding the phone.

Allow detection

Turn on Bluetooth and let the app work in the background. Without that it can't detect anything — that's the whole principle. Then forget about it: it does the rest on its own.

The permissions we ask for, and why

We ask for nothing the app doesn't genuinely need. Here is the full list, with what happens if you say no.

Permission What it's for If you refuse
Bluetooth Broadcasting and listening for anonymous beacons. The heart of the product, and the scan is declared to the system as never being used to locate you. No encounter is possible at all.
Background activity Keeping detection running with the screen off and the app closed, and resuming on its own after the phone restarts. You only cross paths with people while the app is open on screen.
Notifications Telling you about an encounter, a match, a message, an invitation. Everything still works, but you have to open the app to see it.
Location (optional) Recording the approximate area of an encounter for your safety, showing “What's happening”, setting your dynamic place from GPS — it needs your precise location —, and sharing your location with someone you trust or a friend when you decide to. Encounters still work; only those features stay closed, and your dynamic place is then set on the map.

On Android 11 and older, the system itself requires the location permission for any Bluetooth scan: on those phones, it is therefore needed for detection.

What the app does not ask for: access to your contacts, your microphone or your files. For your profile photo, it simply opens your phone's camera for the time it takes to shoot; to invite a friend, the system's contact picker, which hands it only the person you tap.

Phones that kill the app. Some brands — Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Samsung — routinely shut down apps working in the background. The app's “Staying on the lookout” screen gives you the exact steps for your model. It's the first thing to check if you aren't crossing paths with anyone.
